At 3754 metres, New Zealand’s highest mountain, Aoraki Mount Cook, is certainly dazzling, yet there are twenty seven other peaks in this alpine backbone which peak at over 3050 metres, and hundreds of others not far short of that – all making up the famous Southern Alps.

There are numerous walks and hikes from an easy half hour to the more challenging that could last days.  Heli and Scenic flights, some including glacier landings, give you spectacular views of the Southern Alps and the vast snowfields.  Flights also provide access for adventure skiers to enjoy some of the greatest ski runs in the world.

The alpine village of Mount Cook provides a range of accommodation from an international style hotel to motels, backpackers and camping.  Visitors can also enjoy 4WD safaris, horse treks, fishing and mountain biking.  Glentanner Park, on the shore of Lake Pukaki and a 15 minute drive from Mount Cook village, offers the opportunity to experience many tourist activities including a working sheep station.
